Yerba mate was featured twice in the pages of the international magazine National Geographic. This shows the space that the national infusion is gaining in the world, but -at the same time- shows the interest that everyone knows the plant and its benefits.
On the one hand, on June 9, 2023, the magazine published an article entitled "What is mate and why it is healthier than you think", where it reviewed the history and present of the national infusion, but emphasizing its health benefits.
The second publication that took place in the pages of this magazine a few weeks later, more precisely on July 26, and was entitled: "What yerba mate contribute to the body", where the researcher of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (Conicet) from Argentina, author of scientific works, with the support of the National Institute of Yerba Mate (INYM), Lucas Brun reviewed the beneficial properties of the food and what are its benefits.
"Among the benefits, the expert mentions effects on body weight, lipid metabolism, cardiovascular protection, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic and antimicrobial activity. In addition, neuroprotective activity and a positive effect on bones have been described," was reflected in the National Geographic note.
Furthermore, in the same article Brun stated that "in recent years, a growing number of scientific articles have shown a relevant impact of the health properties of yerba mate, which has been attributed to its bioactive compounds and its antioxidant activity".
